How to customize your WordPress Site? Easy Beginners Guide.

WordPress has a repute of being easy to use which can save a lot of your precious time unlike the traditional html method. WordPress has a built in software which allows you to customize or if you want to, upgrade your website as per the plan you wish to buy. For now, I will be focusing on the free plan which WordPress doesn't charge a penny for. You can, However, upgrade it as per your needs which will give you tons of new features but the basics of the software will be the same.

So without further to do, let's go on with it.

This is how your WordPress would look like after you followed my first guide on how to make your first website for free. If you didn't, then I recommend you to visit this site below before proceeding to the article below.

As you can see in the photo above, WordPress has a sidebar full of options that allows you to play with your website in any matter you want to. Each menu has its sub menu which include further categories that will aid you in what tasks to carry out easily. WordPress has made a very user friendly dashboard which is very easy to understand with a bit of assistance.

First of all, your website is not just going to appear on desktop only. You will have to customize it so that it appears as unique as in tablet or mobile mode as well. To access that feature to see how it looks in each platform, click on this menu and select the category you want to see.

There is also an option to visit your site on the top right corner of your screen. You will occasionally click here to check how your site looks when you've made some changes to it. Its a good practice to keep a record of what you're doing step by step to avoid any unfortunate accidents.

There are also options such as stats which will guide you about the traffic you are receiving. There's a plan menu from where you can upgrade the package you choose. Below it is a menu where you can add content to your website. You can add pages, blog posts, reply and manage comments also many other features as an editor of the website. This makes it easy for you to just put in your content without the hassle of going into the customize menu.

Now to customize your site, click on the customize menu right below in the menu bar. Your customizer should look something like this.

If you head over to the site Identity, that is where you will be able to add your logo, site title, header and the basic information. that's up to you.

Next you have the colours and backgrounds which as it sounds allows you to change your sites colour and its background. Whatever you want it to be whether its an image or a solid colour.
Next you have fonts, how your texts will appear. It depends upon your own style so make it count.
Header Image is just like a cover photo for your site. You can chose built in photos or even upload yours but be sure to have the correct dimensions which is according to the theme you use.
Next is a very confusing part of the site. The MENUS.
WordPress offers two menus:
Header Menu
Social Menu
Header Menu will be your navigation bar while the Social menu will have your social accounts linked to it so that your audience will be able to visit your social accounts by just a click. Now WordPress do offers you to make as much menus as you want to but you have the choice to link any two of them to the above two menus as I described.

For example I have my primary menu assigned to the Header Menu.
This is my secondary menu which is my social menu.
See? Very easy.
Next you have content options which allows you to adjust how your content appear on the site and where. You can also add widgets right at the bottom. WordPress offers tons of them and its really a blessing. You can also choose what your homepage will show from the homepage menu. It also has additional menus such as featured content which obviously will highlight the posts you wish to feature and portfolio which will display your work. Note that menus differ according to the theme you chose.
Themes play a vital role in how your site looks but also saves your time. To add a theme, go to customize themes. There are paid as well as free themes. Paid obviously offers more unique look and features but as a starter I would recommend using a free theme which is far more user friendly and easy to use.
So that's all. I hope you like it and feel free to comment below
